After three long years of being unable to travel, Emerson finally returned to one of the places closest to his heart—Kenya. What made this trip even more special was that it became much more than a return visit; it was a journey filled with family, friendship, ministry, and unforgettable moments.
A Team Like No Other
This year’s adventure brought together an incredible group of people. Our son Scott, daughter-in-law Janice, and granddaughter Tallulah joined us from Austin, Texas. It was the first time both Janice and Tallulah had experienced the beauty and warmth of Kenya.
Our longtime friend Dan returned for his second trip, and Scott invited his friend J.D. to join us. From the moment he arrived, J.D. fit right in—especially with the children, who instantly loved him.
Adding to the joy, Pat and Kris Larkin, dear friends who have shared many Kenya adventures with us since our very first trip in 2006, joined us once again.
Beginning at the Foot of Mt. Kenya
Before heading into ministry activities, part of the team traveled to the majestic Mt. Kenya region for three unforgettable days. Surrounded by breathtaking scenery, we enjoyed fellowship, a short safari, golf, wonderful meals, and a very special celebration—Tallulah’s birthday.
It was the perfect beginning to an extraordinary journey.
A Sacred Reunion in Marigat
On February 2, we traveled to Marigat and went directly to the new Stitches & Beads property. There, we reunited with Josephine.
The moment Emerson and Josephine embraced was one none of us will ever forget. Tears flowed as years of friendship, partnership, and God’s faithfulness came flooding back.
Together we built three prayer altars on the property, each anointed with oil as Pastor Joe led us in dedicating the land to God and praying for the future of Stitches & Beads.
Serving Families and Empowering Young Girls
February 3 was a day packed with ministry opportunities.
At Stitches & Beads, we loaded a lorry with food supplies destined for 200 families in need.
Later, we visited a local school where reusable sanitary towel kits were distributed to young girls. Josephine and staff member Eglah carefully explained how to use and care for the kits while also speaking openly about important life choices and personal health.
Meanwhile, the men fitted more than 100 children with new Croc-style shoes—simple gifts that brought enormous smiles.
The day concluded at a local church where food was distributed to families identified by the pastor as most in need.
Hope Arrives in West Pokot
On February 4 and 5, we conducted a two-day medical clinic in a remote and often forgotten region of West Pokot.
Over 600 people received medical care.
The experience was both heartbreaking and inspiring. Many adults weighed just over 100 pounds, highlighting the challenges faced by the community. Despite limited resources, people arrived with gratitude, hope, and incredible resilience.
The clinic was held at a church-school facility that lacked basic educational resources such as books, writing materials, and even blackboards.
In response, Crossing Boundaries committed to providing blackboards, chalk, school uniforms, and additional educational supplies to help equip the students for a brighter future.
The Gift of Water Changes Everything
One of the most inspiring stories came from the school’s water tank, donated by the Warriors Bible Study Group in memory of Carter Schultz.
Before the tank was installed, school attendance averaged about 60 children. Today, attendance has grown to more than 100 students—and continues to increase.
The tank provides clean drinking water and allows the school to prepare porridge each morning, which for many children may be their only meal of the day.
Children who walk long distances to attend school now have access to water throughout the day and can even carry some home for the evening and following morning.
During the clinic, we treated many cases of dehydration, reminding us just how life-changing access to clean water can be.
Exploring God’s Creation
February 6 offered a day of adventure and celebration.
We traveled by boat across beautiful Lake Baringo to visit Ruko Conservancy, where we enjoyed seeing the giraffes and experiencing one of Kenya’s unique natural treasures.
Later that day, we visited Lomalok Church, where a well provided through Crossing Boundaries and Victory Church continues to transform the community.
The people of Lomalok have used the water resource wisely, cultivating acres of vegetables along with thriving mango and papaya trees.
Each new guest had the privilege of planting a mango tree, symbolizing growth, hope, and future harvests. We gathered beneath the trees for prayer, thanksgiving, and celebration.
A Birthday to Remember
The celebrations continued as our Kenyan family helped us honor Tallulah’s birthday.
The laughter, singing, fellowship, and love shared that day created memories that will last a lifetime.
It was a beautiful reminder that family extends far beyond borders.
A Powerful Sunday at Destiny Chapel
On February 8, we worshiped at Destiny Chapel with Bishop Joel Chola.
Emerson shared a message on miracles, connections, and how God often accomplishes His work through ordinary people willing to serve.
Given all he has overcome in recent years, Emerson himself stood as a testimony of God’s faithfulness and healing.
Until Next Time
On February 9, our team began the journey home.
We left with grateful hearts, strengthened friendships, renewed purpose, and countless memories.
This trip reminded us once again that ministry is not simply about projects or programs. It is about people. It is about relationships. It is about serving together and witnessing God at work in extraordinary ways.
Kenya welcomed us home once again—and as always, it left a lasting mark on our hearts.
